Information Regarding On-Site Sewage Systems Maintenance InspectionsBuilding Code was recently amended by Ontario Regulation 315/10 to establish and govern mandatory on-site sewage system maintenance inspection programs to be administered by principal authorities (i.e., municipalities, boards of health and/or conservation authorities) in certain areas of the province. The amendments also govern discretionary on-site sewage system maintenance inspection programs established by principal authorities. These amendments largely came into force on January 1, 2011. Information regarding on-site sewage system maintenance inspections has been prepared for explanatory purposes and is now available.
Next Edition of the Building CodePublic consultations play a key role in the development of the Building Code. Public and stakeholder consultations on potential changes to the code have taken place and the government is currently reviewing this input and recommendations from the Building Code Technical Advisory Committees.
New Provincial Building Permit Application FormThe provincial form “Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish” has been amended to reflect amendments to the Building Code Act, 1992 made under the Good Government Act, 2009, and related changes to the Building Code. These amendments clarify the criteria for a “complete” building permit application, which is an application that is subject to full review within the timeframes set out in the Building Code. The new provincial form must be used for applications submitted on or after January 1, 2011.
On-Site Sewage Maintenance Inspections – Changes to the Building CodeThe Building Code has been amended by O.Reg 315/10 to establish and govern mandatory on-site sewage system maintenance inspection programs in certain areas and to govern discretionary on-site sewage system maintenance inspection programs established by principal authorities.
Dates of Building Code Changes“In force” dates have been established for all legislative changes made to the Building Code Act, 1992 and related December 2009 Code amendments.
The Building Code Energy Advisory CouncilThe Building Code Energy Advisory Council has been established to advise the Minister on Green Energy initiatives that can be implemented through the Building Code.
