BUILDING CODE COMMISSION DECISION ON B.C.C. #93-14-370

IN THE MATTER OF BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Ontario Building Code, O/Reg. 413/90 as amended

PART,

3.2.7.9. Emergency power for building services, water supply for fire fighting.

COMMISSION RULING:

In favour of the respondent.

Regarding Westwood Court Apartment Building, 246 Westwood Road, Guelph, Ontario.

It is the decision of the Building Code Commission that this matter of a newly constructed 4 storey apartment building with standpipe and booster pump shall require an emergency generator for the booster pump capable of providing the required load for a minimum of 30 minutes.

REASONS:

Since hose cabinets have been provided in this building, there is a reasonable expectation on the part of any user of the firehose lines that the required pressure be available. Since the required pressure can only be provided by the booster pump powered by the building's electrical supply which could be interrupted by a fire condition, the booster pump must be connected to an emergency generator.

Dated at Toronto this 21 day in the month of October in the year 1993 for application number 93-14-370.
