BUILDING CODE COMMISSION DECISION ON B.C.C. #93-16-372

Sentence 3.1.6.2.(3) Air-Supported Structures

COMMISSION RULING:

In favour of the applicant.

Regarding an air-supported structure for a golf driving range, 150 Burncrest Road, Markham, Ontario.

It is the decision of the Building Code Commission that this matter of an air-supported golf driving range containing a non- combustible mezzanine occupying under 5% of the floor area shows sufficiency of compliance if the features in the "Reasons" are provided.

REASONS:

  1. The mezzanine will be used as a golf driving range and will allow an open view of the floor area below.

  2. A continuous horizontal structural member will be installed not less than 4.5 m above the length of the platform walkway to support the roof fabric in case of collapse.

  3. The maximum travel distance from any point on the platform to an exit is 30 m.

  4. An audible warning device will warn occupants of a collapse of the fabric.
