BUILDING CODE COMMISSION DECISION ON B.C.C. #94-01-379

IN THE MATTER OF BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Ontario Building Code, O/Reg. 419/86 as amended

PART 3,

Clauses 3.2.2.26.(2)(b)

Requirement for the fire resistance rating of mezzanines.

COMMISSION RULING:

In favour of the Applicant.

Regarding the fire resistance rating of two mezzanines in a sprinklered mechanical penthouse of the Timmins District Hospital, 700 Ross Avenue East, Timmins, Ontario.

It is the decision of the Building Code Commission that this matter of two poured concrete on metal pan platforms supported by steel supports located in the mechanical penthouse of a sprinklered hospital and used to store or access mechanical and electrical equipment shows sufficiency of compliance.

REASONS:

  1. These platforms are intended solely for periodic service and maintenance of equipment; and,

  1. The exposed steel supports are protected by an electrically supervised sprinkler system to the local fire department.

Dated at Toronto this 19th day in the month of January in the year 1994 for application number 1994-01.
