BUILDING CODE COMMISSION DECISION ON B.C.C. #94-03-381

IN THE MATTER OF BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Ontario Building Code, as amended

PART 3,

Clause 3.2.4.8.(1)(h) and Article 3.2.4.16.

Requirements for annunciator zone indication when sprinklers are used in lieu of heat detectors.

COMMISSION RULING:

In favour of the APPLICANT.

Regarding the question concerning annunciator zone indication of sprinklers being used in lieu of heat detectors at Residence St. Louis, 879 Hiawatha Park Road, Gloucester, a 4 storey nursing home having an approximate building area of 4500 metres squared.

It is the decision of the Building Code Commission that the provision of 2 sprinkler zones per floor shows sufficiency of compliance.

REASONS:

  1. The smoke detectors in the patient occupied areas are part of an addressable fire alarm system so that prompt identification of the exact fire location has been provided.

  1. There are two fully staffed nursing stations on each floor level where patient occupied areas are located.

Dated at Toronto this 22nd day in the month of February in the year 1994 for application number 1994-03.
