January 2, 2008
To All Heads of Council:
I am writing to request your support for the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s Long-standing Service Program.
Now in its fourth year, the Long-standing Service Program honours locally elected municipal officials with 25 or more years of service. To date, the Province has presented a total of 111 twenty-five-year pins and in 2006, was privileged to also acknowledge the contribution of two outstanding individuals with over 50 years of service.
You can help by putting forward the names of officials who may be eligible from your municipality.
The following are the nomination criteria:
- 25 or more years of service on municipal council(s) as of December 1, 2007 (not necessarily consecutively)
- currently serving on council in the nomination year (nominees may have served on council in more than one municipality).
Mr. John Burke, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will be sending you a nomination form to be completed by a municipal representative, either staff or an elected official. The completed forms should then be submitted to the regional offices of our ministry. The awards will be presented at the ministry’s annual regional conferences.
The dedication of our locally elected officials has always been one of Ontario’s strengths. I am proud to be a part of the Long-standing Service Program that recognizes their spirit and hard work.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely yours,
Jim Watson, MPP
Minister
