McGuinty Government Presents Awards For 25 Years Of Municipal Service

Ontario is honouring four municipal officials from the north with Long-standing Service Awards. The awards will be presented at the annual conference of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities/Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in Sault Ste. Marie today.
The 2008 25-year awardees are:
- Councillor Lila Cyr, Town of Blind River
- Councillor Rodney Swarek, Township of White River
- Mayor Gary Bishop, Town of Spanish
- Reeve Clermont Lapointe, Township of McGarry
Long-standing service awards are given to municipally-elected officials with at least 25 years of service. The program was introduced by the Ontario government in 2004. As of 2006, those with 50 years of service are also recognized.
