Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette is the recipient of a 25-year Long-standing Service Award.
Bonnette was one of three municipally-elected officials recognized for long-standing service at the 2008 Central Ontario Municipal Conference by Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Jim Watson.
Long-standing service awards are given to municipally-elected officials with at least 25 years of service. The program was introduced by the Ontario government in 2004. As of 2006, those with 50 years of service are also recognized.
Bonnette entered municipal politics in 1982 as a Ward 1 Councillor, the youngest ever elected to Halton Hills Council. He was then elected to Regional Council, serving on a number of committees, including Chair, Planning and Public Works Committee. After 21 years on Town Council, Bonnette was elected mayor of the Town of Halton Hills. During this past term, he has sat as Honourary Chair of the United Way and Honourary Chair for the Bob Rumball School for the Deaf in Halton Hills.
