Recognizing Long-Standing Service


McGuinty Government Presents Awards For 25 Years Of Municipal Service

Ontario is honouring three municipal officials with Long-standing Service Awards. The awards will be presented at the 2008 Central Ontario Municipal Conference in Vaughan today.

The 2008 25-year awardees, all from the Greater Toronto Area, are:

  • Mayor Richard Bonnette, Halton Hills
  • Deputy Mayor Danny Wheeler, Georgina
  • Councillor Ralph Robinson, Town of Oakville

A long-standing service award is given to a municipally-elected official with at least 25 years of service. The program was introduced by the Ontario government in 2004. As of 2006, those with 50 years of service are also recognized.

“The Long-Standing Service Award is a testament to the dedication of our locally-elected officials to Ontario’s communities,” said Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Jim Watson.

QUICK FACTS

  • Since 2004, 111 have received the award for 25 years of service.
  • There have been two 50-year awardees since 2006.
