Email this pagePreparing Future Leaders for Ontario’s Municipalities
Seven recent graduates of a master’s degree in public administration or a related discipline from an Ontario university have a unique work opportunity ahead of them. Through a new internship program, they will get hands-on experience working in municipal corporations.
The Municipal Internship Program prepares new graduates for careers as future managers and administrators of Ontario’s municipalities. The pilot program will run for one year starting June 2007. The municipalities of Greater Napanee, Marathon, Newmarket, Oliver Paipoonge, Thunder Bay and Waterloo and Hastings County, will each host an intern for the 2007 program year.
The Municipal Internship Program is a partnership between the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario. The province has worked with the association and educational institutions to develop the program and curriculum, and is providing 50 per cent funding over the pilot year. The Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario is also funding the program.
On June 7-8, 2007 the first ever orientation for interns and
municipal mentors was held under the Municipal Internship Program.
