Private businesses may be eligible to receive Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance if they incur extraordinary costs as a result of an unforeseen natural disaster.

Eligible Businesses

  • Urban and rural owner/operators of full-time and part-time small business operations
  • Employ 100 or fewer employees
  • Have a GST, PST or BN (Business Number)

Eligible Costs

  • Cleanup, disposal and replacement of damaged inventory at cost
  • Structural damage to primary building
  • Repair of essential equipment (i.e., freezers, computers, etc.)
  • Cleanup of debris caused by flood damage so that businesses can reopen
  • Evacuation of movable property
  • Repair of docks necessary for business operations to pre-disaster condition
  • Tools or other items essential to the claimant’s livelihood, including farm machinery and equipment
  • Replacement of inventory at cost

Note: Claimants will be required to prove that damages were consistent with the scale and nature of their businesses and must provide original receipts or two written contractor’s estimates to substantiate their claims.
