• Section 1.4 of the Provincial Policy Statement, 2005 (PPS, 2005) requires planning authorities to provide for an appropriate range of housing types and densities to meet projected requirements of current and future residents. These policies also require the establishment and implementation of affordable housing targets.

• This information about affordable house prices and rents by regional market area is provided to assist municipalities with implementing Section 1.4 Housing of the PPS, 2005.

• There are 4 tables which relate directly to the definition of affordable housing (ownership and rental) as outlined on page 28 of the PPS, 2005:
  • Affordable house prices based on household income (58K);
  • Average resale house prices and 10% below average resale house prices (32K);
  • Affordable rents based on renter household income (59K);
  • Average market rents by bedroom type (53K).
