Release 03-07
The Social Housing Branch first provided an explanatory “Guide to Special Needs Housing” on February 8, 2002. This guide has been updated to incorporate amendments to the regulations under the Social Housing Reform Act, 2000 since that date and to make a few corrections. The copy of the Guide provided here incorporates all regulation amendments to December 31, 2002.
An updated version of the “Guide to Rent-Geared-to-Income Assistance” is also being provided to service managers under separate cover.
Action required
Please replace any copies of the “Guide to Special Needs Housing” dated February 8, 2002 with the version attached to this notification. Service managers are asked to distribute copies of this guide to housing providers that are specified in regulation as supportive housing providers. This includes transferred housing providers that have modified units and/or units where provincially-funded support services are provided.
The guide is strictly explanatory in nature. It explains the requirements of the Social Housing Reform Act, 2000 and its regulations insofar as they pertain special needs housing as defined by the Act.
Service managers and supportive housing providers may use this material to support program administration if and as they wish. Electronic copies of the English and French versions will be provided on CD-ROM under separate cover for convenience and to allow incorporation of the material in their publications as desired. The document will also be available on the ministry’s web site.
Any questions from service managers about this guide can be directed to Katherine Willson at 416-585-7042 or email to katherine.willson@mah.gov.on.ca .
