Ontario East Municipal Conference 2008, September 10, 11 & 12

The 16th annual Ontario East Municipal Conference (OEMC ) 2008 wrapped up with more than 650 delegates, exhibitors and speakers participating - a record number this year!

The theme "Teamwork – Working Together to Make it Happen” from all accounts was a success with the participants. We hit the ground running with our opening speaker, Michael “Pinball” Clemons. Whether in uniform, on the sidelines, or in the front office, he is one of Canada's favourite personalities.

Pinball's presentations were captivating and empowering as he inspires by demonstrating what it means to beat the odds and work as a team. He lived up to his reputation and kept the audience's attention throughout as they listened, laughed and applauded enthusiastically. In fact, delegates indicated that Michael Clemons was the best speaker they had ever heard.

During the three days, thirty-one different workshops were available offering a variety of Local Government, Land Use Planning and Economic Development topics. In addition, there were three mobile workshops featuring a tour of an innovation park, green municipal buildings or a visit to the historic Rideau Canal museum in Smiths Falls. Attendees could also visit with any of the thirty-nine exhibitors on hand who offered information, advice and interesting giveaways.

On the final day, Speaker and humorist Tricia Hasenclever entertained the delegates with her amusing perspective on teamwork. She made us laugh and she made us think. The conference closed with the presentation of the Long Standing Service Awards to seven recipients.

Congratulations to the seven Recipients:
