Social Housing Branch
The Social Housing Branch (SHB) is in the business of providing, in consultation with service managers, other ministries and stakeholders, a framework that promotes a sustainable subsidized housing supply while protecting the province’s interest in social housing by ensuring that the requirements under the Social Housing Reform Act 2000 and the Federal/Provincial Social Housing Agreement are met.

The Social Housing Branch relies on the Ministry’s Municipal Services Offices as a source of local intelligence on housing related issues.  MSO’s act as a key initial contact to provide information to local client groups on social housing related matters.

There are 47 Consolidated Municipal Services Managers and District Social Services Administration Boards responsible for the administration of social housing in their respective service areas.  In the Northeastern region, the responsibilities under the Social Housing Reform Act 2000, for Federal, Provincial, Municipal and Public Housing is administered by the District Social Services Administration Board or the City of Greater Sudbury.

District Social Services Administration Boards
District Social Services Administration Boards (DSSAB’s) are boards established in Northern Ontario to deliver social services, such as, child care, social housing and in some cases, land ambulance.  In addition to municipal members, the board composition includes representative(s) from the unincorporated areas.  The City of Greater Sudbury delivers these services directly and does not belong to a DSSAB.  There are  ten (10) DSSAB’s in the North, with seven (7) in the Northeast:
